In 2024 we had the pleasure of blending historic preservation with modern innovation. One of our standout projects allowed us to do just that with a historic greenhouse renovation in Central New York. Tasked with preserving its historic character while transforming it into a year-round, functional space, this project was a labor of love and craftsmanship.
Preserving the Past
This house, a cherished piece of local history, has stood for decades. Our primary goal on this project was to retain its original character—preserving the aged brick foundation, the classic wood-framed windows, and the vintage charm of the structure. Every element was treated with care, ensuring the spirit of the house remained intact while enhancing it with a greenhouse.
Modern Touches for Year-Round Use
All-Season Functionality: We installed insulation and ventilation systems, making the space usable through New York’s harsh winters and hot summers.
Efficient Workstations: Custom-built wooden tables and planting benches were designed to provide ample workspace while seamlessly blending with the structure’s historic aesthetic.
Utility Upgrades: A stainless steel utility sink and modern plumbing were added to make planting and maintenance tasks more convenient.
Groundwork Improvements: The addition of pea gravel flooring improves drainage while maintaining the home's rustic appeal.
A Project to Be Proud Of
This project exemplifies our commitment to combining respect for history with a focus on functionality and sustainability. The completed greenhouse project not only honors the past but also serves as a space for new growth and vibrant life.
At Dunham Construction, we believe every project tells a story. This greenhouse is a testament to the beauty of preserving history while embracing the future. Whether you're looking to restore a cherished structure or build something new, we’re here to help your vision come to life.
